Multiple New Risk of Rain Projects Announced

I’ve been interested in giving Risk of Rain a try for a while now as the game is universally regarded as one of the best within the genre. Plus, it has a charming retro art style that speaks to the comic fan within me. With this week’s latest batch of announcements from Gearbox, it certainly seems like there is no better time to jump into the series.

During the celebration of Risk of Rain’s 10th anniversary, publisher Gearbox unveiled a new expansion for Risk of Rain 2, titled Seekers of the Storm. The new content will add dozens of items, enemies, and Survivors. The expansion also introduces a new villain named The False Son, as well as dynamic stages that alternate between day and night. In addition, the previous expansion “Survivors of the Void” will be coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, PS4/5, and Nintendo Switch. As of now, there is no official release date for Seekers of the Storm but the DLC is available to Wishlist now.

Next up, was the announcement of Risk of Rain: Hostile Worlds. This is a brand new title within the universe that is in development for mobile platforms. In contrast to the main series, Hostile Worlds is planned to be a free-to-play action RPG. Gearbox stated that the game will combine bullet-hell style gameplay with squad-based RPGs. Players will explore the “Versanto system” with a huge cast of Survivors that can be customized and upgraded as needed. Pre-registering for the game now will also reward you with the Survivor known as Mercenary at launch.

Finally, the stream ended with the announcement of the launch of Risk of Rain Returns. This is a reimagining of the original Risk of Rain complete with remastered graphics and soundtrack as well as some additional content in the form of Survivors, enemies, items, and gameplay balance adjustments. Risk of Rain Returns is available now on PC through Steam and Nintendo Switch.
