The arcade revival line My Arcade is known for releasing classic and retro games that fit in the palm of your hand. Their line of joystick players might be small, but they are mighty when it comes to mimicking the experience of playing older games in their original format. The newly announced Galaga Joystick Player is the latest entry in their collection, offering players a wonderful excuse to revisit one of the best arcade shooters in video game history. Here’s what we know so far.

Galaga and Galaxian are playable in the new My Arcade Galaga Joystick Player, available now online and at select retailers. at $49.99 USD, the handheld peripheral features a responsive joystick that provides players with room to play classic titles with precise controls. “The Joystick Player boasts a vibrant 3.2″ full-color backlit display that delivers sharp graphics, immersing you in every pixel of your favorite retro games,” as the press release states. The external-facing speaker, on the other hand, reproduces sounds from the iconic cabinet.

Powered by either 4 AA batteries or a USB-C cable, you can bring this unique tabletop cabinet just about anywhere. Seeing as Galaga is super addicting, that’s a good thing. If you aren’t familiar with Galaga, then here’s the gist. Waves of aliens are attacking and you control a spaceship tasked with defeating literally all of them. Work hard for power-ups and unique abilities and fend off the alien invaders. It’s simple, but one of my favorites on the same level as Pac-Man or Pong.
