Before The Night Brings Retro Horror to Nintendo Switch

We’re almost in peak spooky season. It’s that time of year horror fans rejoice and easily-scared folks like myself pretend we like scary things. Luckily, a lot of video games that are horror-adjacent are fitting for the season without giving you a reason to scream and lose sleep. A great example is a new release from publisher CFK, which has just released a 2D horror action title Before the Night. Here’s why it’s on my radar ahead of October.

Before the Night launched on September 28th and comes from a solo Korean developer working under the name Uneducated Game Studio. A+ for the studio name. The 2D horror title tells the story of a pet human fighting to survive in a world where human and animal roles have been reversed. Players must navigate the threats packed into this world where the master is now the pet and adventure to uncover the truths buried within the animal village.

When the game was released on Steam earlier this year, it earned a “Very Positive” rating from players for its action and twisted story. As human pet Lisa, you try to uncover why your rabbit owner Alice has passed away suddenly. As Lisa seeks answers, she learns of a mysterious entity called Flowers of Life that can help her resurrect her loving owner.

From what I’ve played in the demo, the gameplay is smooth and the action keeps you dialed in as you progress through Lisa’s journey. There’s likely more to uncover, so like a lot of Switch owners this week, I’ll be grabbing this one to see what else is hidden behind the mysterious world of Before the Night.
