I might be mad (not in the American sense), but I can’t have been the only one who expected an air date for at least the first special, right? We’re about 2 months away (give a week or two), and we’ve known about, seen, and heard details and rumors about these Doctor Who specials for over a year now. When we all saw that “Trailer Tomorrow” teaser, expectations were high, not just for an air date but for newer details to sink our teeth into. We sort of got that, though it is still all a bit vague if you ask me.

Airing Saturday on BBC One (apparently), the new trailer is about two and a quarter minutes of clips we have seen and snippets of previously unseen details. Kate’s back and UNIT has moved into a modified version of The Shard that has moved near The Fenchurch Building and the WTW, for some reason. Maybe I’m wrong, but it certainly doesn’t look like it is by London Bridge Station. Disney now owns the international distribution rights, so maybe Pepper sold off Stark Tower to feed the kid.

For the most part, the trailer establishes that Ten has returned in the form of the 14th to finish off Donna’s story. Neil Patrick Harris’ Toymaker returns, Miriam Margolyes voices Beep The Meep, and where Beep goes the Wrath Warriors follow soon behind. We’ve seen the clips, Donna poking Beep in the eye “What the hell was that?,” 14 talking to Yasmin Finney’s Rose, and NPH doing his camp over-the-top thing. There are new odd clips of action here or there, more character stuff from Beep and the Toymaker, and a couple of shots establishing the heart of the specials as 10 wanting to save Donna’s life.

This is great stuff, but I want an air date before I burst with excitement! Of course, the “debate” hanging over the trailer is something Donna says, or rather shouts in the heat of the moment: “Then we go and kick its arse!” Yes, it is one of those internet debates so of course it is “oh no, a woman said a word” that just so happens is in The Simpsons which last I checked airs on Sky Showcase 5-6 PM, Channel 4 at 6:30, and Sky again at between 7 and 8. This says nothing of Bill’s comment on 12 running “like a penguin with its arse on fire.”

I don’t understand this massively conservative swing over the word just above “oh heck” on the scale of things you don’t say in front of your nan. If she used the C-word, then yeah, I’d have been right up on the pedestal shouting “How dare she bring the name Chibnall back into this household!” Jokes, confusion over the internet’s sensitivity, and a desire for the air dates aside, it truly is a solid trailer even if it only has a snippet of my favorite Ken. Personally, I can’t wait to watch in November and obviously cry when we see Wilf again for the final time

I just need some sort of time machine to get there quicker. Oh, and I need the Christmas special that Russell confirmed in the magazine issue 585, “Letter from the Showrunner” Sadly, I’ve yet to see it confirmed on social media for love and money (or Monsters).
