The annual Tokyo Game Show took place starting last Thursday (September 21st) and went over the weekend. On top of new gameplay for upcoming titles came some interesting new teasers. Among these was Rusty Rabbit, developed by NetEase Games. This quirky action platformer caught my attention with its fun character design and Metroidvania style.

Rusty Rabbit follows the middle-aged rabbit man Stamp, as he pilots his trusty mech suit “Junkster” through a post-apocalyptic wasteland searching for clues regarding the whereabouts of his missing daughter. Along the way, Stamp will learn more about the mysteries surrounding the world and uncover hidden truths within the ruins.

The game promises a robust story along with 2.5D action platforming gameplay along with some RPG progression systems as you collect upgrades to improve your mech. What has me most intrigued about this title is the fact that the lead writer and creator is none other than Gen Urobuchi, a well-known and accomplished anime director and writer. Gen’s past work includes titles such as Psycho-Pass, Madoka Magica, and the novel version of Fate/Zero all of which are highly regarded by critics and audiences. Urobuchi had this to say about the upcoming project:

While I have always had a great passion for the gaming industry, my work has mainly focused on creative adventures in traditional text format. I am filled with gratitude to NetEase Games for finally fulfilling my long-standing wish to create a game filled with action and adventure based on my stories. I would also like to thank all the staff who lent their expertise to make this project a reality. Our goal is for Rusty Rabbit to bear the fruits of this creative challenge, and I’m excited for my fans and gaming fans everywhere to experience this game next year. Thank you so much for your support!

Rusty Rabbit is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and PC and will release sometime in 2024. For more details visit the official site here.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
