MechWarrior 5: Clans Revealed

Last week, Piranha Games announced a brand new entry within the MechWarrior action game series. Set within the tabletop universe of BattleTech, MechWarrior 5: Clans is stated to be a transformative step forward to the franchise. Clans is also a direct follow-up to the 2019 game MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. This time, the story of MechWarrior will follow Clan Smoke Jaguar during the Clan Invasion of the year 3050.

According to the press statement, “The game immerses players in both the personal and military conflicts of the Clan Invasion. As you progress through the campaign, you’ll experience a deeply engaging narrative that unfolds with well-developed characters and moral dilemmas that keep you on the edge of your seat.” Additionally, players can expect to explore diverse, fully destructible biomes built within the Unreal Engine. Missions promise to be jam-packed with strategic, diverse objectives that will keep gameplay fresh.

Piranha also revealed lots of additional information surrounding the gameplay. There will be a new roster of customizable mechs for players to pilot. The team promises that “new progression and customization systems encourage pilots to alter Mech load-outs with expansive customization through an updated Mech lab, Hardpoint, and Omnipod system. Adaptability to the scenario at hand is key to a strategic victory.”

Long-time fans of the strategic combat system can expect a return to form with this new iteration. Players form five-man squads called “Stars” and coordinate in team assaults while protecting one another to carry out objectives in real-time. The immersive first-person perspective also returns allowing you to place yourself directly into the action.

MechWarrior 5: Clans will launch in 2024 for PC and the game is available to Wishlist on Steam right now. There is no word yet on compatibility with other platforms as of now. Be sure to check out the official website for future updates and news regarding the game.
