Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Open for Pre-Order

A few months ago, Square Enix announced the return of the Dragon Quest Monsters spin-off series after a long hiatus. The announcement was intended to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series. This new title Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince was then officially unveiled with a short teaser. As of this week, Square has announced that digital Nintendo Switch pre-orders are live. Players who pre-order the game will receive the Head Start bundle including three items: Stardust Earrings, Scholar’s Specs, and five Bonus Balls.

Additionally, more information regarding the overall content of the game was released. As with most games in the series, players can expect an original story as they adventure and construct a team of monsters to do battle. This time around the protagonist is known as the Dark Prince, Psaro. The newest battle system allows you to control up to eight monsters and issue precise orders to them or select pre-set auto tactics.

There are many ways to add monsters to your team. The simplest is to coerce them after defeating them. You accomplish this by using the “Show of Force” skill, which can be upgraded and augmented by utilizing various items. Other monsters may become available by trading with NPCs. Another key feature of this new title is the more intuitive synthesis system. This allows you to create brand-new monsters by combining them together.

The Dark Prince includes over 500 unique monsters to choose from. Furthermore, each monster can inherit or learn multiple unique talents so this allows for a massive amount of customization and diversity amongst players. I’m looking forward to playing The Dark Prince when it releases in December. It seems to be jam-packed with content and I hope it will inject some fresh ideas into the monster-collecting genre. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince will launch worldwide on December 1st, 2023 for Nintendo Switch.
