Digital Extremes the studio behind the highly successful title Warframe held their yearly celebration this week in Ontario, Canada. In addition to announcing new content for Warframe, this year’s presentation focused on the upcoming fantasy RPG SoulFrame. Warframe celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and the developers have marked this achievement with exclusive skins dubbed Heirloom collections.

The newest story expansion titled Whispers in the Walls was announced for the winter of this year. In October, players can expect the next major content update which will add the 54th Warframe, Dagath, along with seasonal gear and quality-of-life improvements. Furthermore, Digital Extremes confirmed a mobile version of the game is in development along with cross-save functionality which can be expected this year. Finally, came the announcement of the next big content update and narrative adventure titled Warframe 1999 will be released sometime in 2024.

The presentation showed viewers an extended look at gameplay and discussed much of the game’s lore. Soulframe was announced at last year’s TennoCon and looks to deliver a masterfully crafted fantasy sandbox for players to explore. The game takes place on the mystical isle of Midrath. You take on the role of the nameless Envoy who is tasked with gathering the souls of past ancestors in order to build a new society.

It’s clear the art direction and gameplay have no doubt been influenced by the likes of Elden Ring. However, Soulframe appears to favor more hack-and-slash elements and looks significantly less punishing. Personally, I’m hoping the combat system can offer a little more complexity and fluidity as the gameplay shown here seemed a tad generic.

However, players can also freely customize and evolve their playstyle throughout the game by changing three base stats; courage, spirit, and grace. In this game, classes take on the form of pacts with various Omen Beasts that can be freely swapped between. I’m interested to see how this will play out on release as it’s not something most other RPGs allow you to do without undergoing tedious re-spec quests or resource farming. There is still no official release date for Soulframe as of now but the game can be expected to launch on PC and will be free to play. You can learn more about the game on the official website.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
