Monday, nothing happened because Gamescom began, in fact, go check out the preview I did last week with the wonderful folks over at BeardEnvy on Uncle Chop’s Rocket Shop. While you’re at it, Jumplight Odyssey was also released this week. Tuesday, it was Charles Martinet news. Wednesday, I swear if Geoff gets Zack Snyder to show off Star Wars: Generic Edition again, Alexx might lose his mind, Immortals of Aveum was finally released, and wood paneling is finally leaving the 70s. Thursday, who said there would be news all week long?

Moving on to the free game on the Epic Games Store this week, you can pick up 2016’s Homeworld: Desert of Kharak, which just sounds like “we like Dune but don’t have the IP.” As the third game to release in the series (though a prequel overall), Blackbird Interactive’s new installment was met with (in an aggregate sense) reasonable favor. However, it didn’t light the fire screaming for an instant sequel. Talking about game review scores, it was a 7 out of 10. If I had the time today, I’d have given it more, but I am busy and there is lots of cheesecake to be eaten.

All this week you can pick up Homeworld: Desert of Kharak on the Epic Games Store until Thursday, the 31st of August. Moving on to next week, it is another repeat of an indie you’ve heard a lot about but you’ve played everything else inspired by it in one way or another, Cave Story+. From its one-person dev team, pixel art, Metroidvania gameplay, and extreme polish including strong character work, it was one of the first modern games of its type. Of course, there have been indie titles since the 70s/80s, but this one came to widespread international fame via the internet while doing it.
