Atari 2600+ Revealed

Retro game fans can rejoice this week with the latest announcement from PLAION about a brand new Atari console. The Atari 2600+ is a modern-day recreation of the original console that was first released on the market in 1980. This new version of the legendary system will be available worldwide on the 17th of November. The starting retail price point will be 129.99.

This new rendition of the Atari will launch with ten classic games that are loaded onto one cartridge. The lineup is as follows: Adventure, Missile Command, Combat, Dodge ‘Em, Haunted House, Maze Craze, Realsports Volleyball, Surround, Video Pinball, and Yars’ Revenge. Additionally, the console will be fully backward compatible with original Atari 2600 and 7800 cartridges. For those looking to replicate the purest classic experience, the console will also come with a recreation of the CX40+ Joystick Controller with the original layout. This controller can also be purchased as a stand-alone product for 24.99.

Other notable features of this console include HDMI output, USB power, and multiple screen resolutions. Additional products for the console will include other launch titles such as Berzerk Enhanced Edition, and Mr. Run and Jump which will retail for 29.99.

Atari Chairman and CEO, Wade Rosen commented that this new console will allow for the continued preservation of classic games by allowing older titles to become universally available. Ben Jones, Commercial Director at PLAION had this to say in regard to the partnership:
