I’ve been partial to a couple of gaming musical titles here and there throughout the years, most recently OFK last year. A little bit different, Humble Games and Summerfall Studios’ Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical uses a different art style and adds a bit of mythology. Following a short delay after the conflict with the highly anticipated Baldur’s Gate 3, the story-focused title was set for the 10th of August, or if you ask Steam and the first email I got yesterday, the 9th.

With Stray Gods, we wanted to try something that has never been done before that would perfectly blend the things we love most here at Summerfall – compelling storytelling, unique characters, beautiful music[,] and exciting adventure,” said Creative Director at Summerfall Studios, David Gaider. He continued with, “That, along with collaboration with some of the best in the industry, we couldn’t be more proud of what we’re bringing to our fans todayWe’re excited to take fans on this musical roleplaying journey and we hope that they’ll fall in love with this and its story that we’ve poured our hearts into, as much as we have.

Set in a modern fantasy world, college dropout Grace gains some powers that let her discover what happened to the person before that had this Muse power. I assume not the same Muse that is fronted by a 9/11 conspiracy theorist and bland musician. Throughout Stray Gods, you’ll decide who Grace allies with and who might betray her along the way. With music from Austin Wintory of Banner Saga and Journey, Tripod (who worked with Wintory on Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate), and Australia’s 2020 entry into Eurovision, Montaigne.

All of this is illustrated beautifully in this almost Hellboy comic-book style or Hades-inspired design Out now on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch, you can pick up Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical is $29.99 in the US, £24.99 in the UK, and €29.99 in the EU.
