Pokemon UNITE, the MOBA game starring over 50 of the world’s beloved Pokemon, is turning two already. I know, I also can’t believe the game is already two years old. When the game launched in 2021, it was a relatively big hit. With the popularity of MOBA games peaking, thanks to legacy titles like League of Legends and DOTA 2, a Pokemon makeover was an obvious choice for The Pokemon Company and Tencent. Now, two years later, Mewtwo is leading their celebration of the game’s anniversary.

Over 100 million downloads in two years is a huge deal for Pokemon UNITE, so to celebrate the game’s successes, a brand new batch of content is now available. Leading the festivities is the all-new introduction of Mewtwo into the game. Fit with Mega Evolution powers, it’s clear that Mewtwo will be a huge favorite in the game’s already impressive 56-Pokemon roster. The Unite license for Mega Mewtwo X comes free with the Crystal Cave Challenge that is live in the event now.

A new battle mode is also available now, titled Panic Parade. In this new experience, players cooperatively fight off waves of panicked Pokemon. It’s a sort of horde mode for the Pokemon UNITE experience and a great choice in my opinion. If, like me, you haven’t checked out Pokemon UNITE in a while, this is a great excuse to hop back in. The event is held at specific times, for now, listed here:

First event: Friday, 21 July, at 1:00 a.m. BST to Tuesday, 1 August, at 12:59 a.m. BST

Second event: Friday, 4 August, at 1:00 a.m. BST to Monday, 7 August, at 12:59 a.m. BST

Third event: Friday, 11 August, at 1:00 a.m. BST to Monday, 14 August, at 12:59 a.m. BST​

Fourth event: Friday, 18 August, at 1:00 a.m. BST to Monday, 21 August, at 12:59 a.m. BST

Overall, the impact of Pokemon UNITE didn’t revolutionize the MOBA genre, but it did bring a lot of folks into this ecosystem who might not have previously tried out a game like this. That includes me, someone who isn’t a huge League of Legends player, but was curious enough about this title given my love for Pokemon.
