Summer 2023 Romcom Anime Slate

The main genre of anime that has captivated me and kept my interest for several years now is romantic comedy. After finishing up the Spring slate including The Cafe Terrace and its Goddesses, Insomniacs After Midnight, and Loving Yamada at Lv999! amongst others, I’m happy to discover more shows are now airing on a weekly basis. My goal is to share them here so you can have up to five unique romcoms to look forward to and get you through the week!

The Dreaming Boy is a Realist is quite the unique take on the tried-and-true slice-of-life formula. In this show airing every Monday, the protagonist comes to his senses and stops pursuing the girl he loves, much to the dismay of everyone around them. This creates a tense, confusing dynamic that will maintain your interest. Come Tuesday, you can expect a new episode of The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses, where the forgetful girl leans on and grows closer to the protagonist as he aids her whilst already being madly in love with her.

Rent-A-Girlfriend enters its third season airing every Friday, as our protagonist, who seems to get the affection of every love interest despite all odds) aims to complete a movie for his rental service girlfriend per her wishes to show her dying grandmother. Wednesdays are prime for My Happy Marriage, combatting the arranged-marriage disparity and blossoming a newfound love, prime for hopeless romantics.

My favorite of the bunch, My Tiny Senpai takes to the workplace as the small Senpai finds mutual affection with her coworker who just so happens to be twice her size. Truly, romantic comedy anime fans have a wealth of content to enjoy five days a week. I plan to watch these in between catching up with The Dangers in my Heart and Galaxy Next Door. Who knows if all these couples will come to be? We’ll just have to watch and find out!
