Today Riot Games announced its latest upcoming in-game event that will introduce new content for the studio’s major titles League of Legends, Wild Rift Teamfight Tactics, and Legends of Runeterra. This event is dubbed Soul Fighter and is stated to be the studio’s tribute to the fighting game genre. Taking place in an alternate universe from the main game world of Runeterra, players can expect some of the usual tie-in content such as a dedicated skin line. However, there is exclusive content for each of the respective titles.

Starting off with the base game, League of Legends will be receiving two new game modes: Arena, and The Tournament of Souls. According to the press release “Arena mode will pit four teams of two players against one another in rotating bouts. After each round they will power up with unique Augments until only one team is left standing Combat takes place on four different battlefields which vary in size, terrain density, and theme. Champions from the Soul Fighter universe will make occasional Cameo appearances in matches to either players’ benefit or detriment.”

On the other hand, Tournament of Souls appears to be a minigame set within the client where players take on the role of popular champion Samira and experience a small side story that is advanced by playing games of League. The event will also feature the debut of the newest champion, Naafiri the Hound of a Hundred Bites.

Teamfight Tactics will also receive a new game mode coinciding with the event called Soul Brawl. The official description of this mode is as follows, “This game mode takes place across two stages; Training phase, where players compete for Soul Power that will strengthen their Soul Crown and provide additional loot options, and Tournament phase, where players will be eliminated in a best-of-three bracket tournament.” Teamfight Tactics will also be receiving a narrative adventure mode called the Choncc Dome and in-game cosmetics.

Wild Rift, the mobile version of League will see the launch of the champion Nilah, new cosmetics and skins, as well as their own game mode titled Tag Duel. This allows each player to select three champions and face off against one another, all while seamlessly swapping between each of your three fighters. The narrative mode for Wild Rift focuses on the champions Draven and Yasuo and is told through the style of a visual novel.

Lastly, the digital card game Legends of Runeterra will receive the least amount of content with the only new features being additional skins, card backs, emotes and various other rewards obtained through gameplay and spending real currency. The Soul Fighter event will take place from July 20th to August 28th and kicks off with the Fight Night Tournament featuring well-known content creators. This will be live-streamed on the 17th of July.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
