The latest showcase during the not-E3 time period was held last week and it’s one that’s sure to satisfy fans of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon franchise. Although we’ve seen some trailers during Summer Game Fest and the Xbox conference, the Ryu Ga Gotoku team had plenty to show for its upcoming titles during its RGG Summit for Summer 2023.

Starting it off was a bit of a dive into the upcoming Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. The big news is that Kiryu will have access to two fighting styles: the “Yakuza” style and the brand-new “Agent” style. While the former is sure to feel familiar to those who have played the previous action-based games, the latter utilizes a variety of gadgets you’d expect a secret agent to use. These include a wire hook that can grapple onto enemies, drones, and even a cigarette bomb.

We also learned a bit more about the story amidst some reveals of new characters. The Omi Alliance will be a major factor once again, and many members of the cast will hail from the Watase family, which fans will recognize from Yakuza 5, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Another interesting character that was properly revealed was Homare Nishitani III, who was seen at the end of the trailer shown at Summer Game Fest. While we don’t know if he has any blood relation to the Homare Nishitani from Yakuza 0, they did reveal that the name itself is passed on across generations.

Next was some new info for Like a Dragon 8, which is going to be called Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth for the Western release. They were a bit more tight-lipped on details, but we did get a clip featuring Kiryu and Ichiban talking to each other. Although it doesn’t seem to explain why we saw the latter naked on a beach during the Xbox Games Showcase. Their conversation does reveal that Ichiban proposed to Saeko and that Kiryu has proposed to someone before as well. It’s short, but it is nice to see interesting character developments being made with these characters.

For those that want to see more, the wait won’t be too long. Another event, called the RGG Summit Fall 2023, will be held in September. It’s likely the focus will be on these two titles once again. If you want to see the full live stream for the RGG Summit Summer 2023, it can be seen below.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
