Paldea Evolved Expansion Launches for Pokémon TCG

The latest expansion of the Pokémon TCG explores an old mechanic a lot of older players might remember. In fact, the time I fell out of collecting Pokémon cards originally ended up being one of the final times we saw this special type of card. It’s ironic that now that I’m back into the Pokémon TCG scene like so many others thanks to an uptick in popularity of the game, the mechanic makes its grand return. Let’s talk about Paldea Evolved, the latest expansion for the Scarlet and Violet Pokémon TCG cards.

Back in 2007, Pokémon ex-cards debuted alongside the Trading Card Game’s Ruby and Sapphire cards. Now, in the latest expansion for the Pokémon TCG Scarlet and Violet cards, they’re back in the Paldea Evolved expansion that launched June 9th. Beyond looking gorgeous, these cards utilize the original mechanic of ex-cards. They are powerful two-Prize Pokémon that can also evolve from one-Prize Pokémon. This provides players with a dynamic way to turn the tides of a battle.

The new expansion also allows players to utilize Pokémon ex-cards’ higher HP and powerful attacks and abilities. Slowking, Forretress, and Dedenne are featured in the new expansion as Tera Pokémon ex, displayed in full-art illustrations to highlight their unique crystalline characteristics. Plenty of illustration rare and special illustration rare cards in the Scarlet and Violet set also make their way to the expansion’s new additions.

Paldea Evolved is available now in booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes, and special collections everywhere you normally pick up cards.
