This week following the opening of the Summer Games Fest was the Devolver Digital games showcase focusing on all the upcoming titles from the well-loved publisher. There’s a fun slate of announcements to go over so let’s not waste any time. First up was a brand new title from the developers behind the infamous Getting Over It and Ape Out.

Baby Steps is a self-titled “walking simulator” that has you taking control of Nate, an unemployed man living in his parent’s basement who is suddenly transported far away and must traverse nature on his own. The game features simulated physics-based walking and an array of environments for Nate to explore. The entire tone of the game is very comedic and the full game will no doubt include dozens of goofy details and humorous NPCs to encounter along your journey. Baby Steps will be released in 2024 for PC and PS5

Following this came the announcement teaser for a sequel to the 2016 game Human Fall Flat. The original game threw you into dynamic levels with a group of friends where you’d compete to solve puzzles. Human Fall Flat 2 promises to be more ambitious than the original title. It will have new levels, character customization, music, and more refined gameplay mechanics. There is no official release date for the game as of yet.

Continuing the puzzle game theme, the direct showcased a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming sequel to The Talos Principle. Developed by Croteam, this game takes place in the distant future in which humanity has long since died out and society is preserved by robots. You traverse a massive, detailed world solving puzzles using various tools such as gravity manipulation and mind transference, all while experiencing a thought-provoking narrative. This new gameplay trailer certainly looked impressive with a diverse set of environments and puzzles. The Talos Principle II will be released later this year for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.

This next announcement was my personal favorite, the debut trailer for Wizard with a Gun. Developed by Galvanic Games, this cinematic overview trailer showcased a variety of gameplay features and introduced the charming Western fantasy world. Wizard with a Gun drops players into an immersive sandbox world known as The Shatter which is plagued by the forces of Chaos.

The gameplay focuses on gathering resources and building out your customizable wizard tower while adventuring through various levels. Combat is built around crafting magical bullets and weapons from a huge variety of options. This trailer also concluded with the announcement of a playable demo that is available now on Steam. The full game will be released later this year for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.

Finally, the showcase concluded with the announcement of an official release date for the upcoming game Sludge Life 2. The game will launch on June 27th. For players who can’t wait there is a Steam demo that is also available right now.

This game looks incredibly wacky with a distinctive art style and character design that certainly lives up to the name. The game will be available exclusively for PC. Hopefully a few of these titles piqued your interest. I’m certainly looking forward to a few. I am also excited about what else will be revealed in the coming days.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
