Them’s Fightin’ Herds Teases Third DLC Character

While the bombardment of new video games and big announcements has begun, something that may have flown a bit under the radar is a tease for a new character in Mane6’s ungulate-fighter. After being ported to numerous consoles last November, including the Nintendo Switch (a version I reviewed here), Them’s Fightin’ Herds has been steadily adding new characters as a part of its first season of DLC content. The first DLC character released was Texas back in December while Stronghoof was released in April.

The wait for the next fighter might not be as long though. The end of a recent tournament at Combo Breaker 2023 revealed the next fighter is named Nidra. Continuing with the hooved-character designs, this fighter is based on a Tapir. Similar to Luna in Animal Crossing, Nidra also seems to be based on the modern mythological being called a Baku, which is said to eat nightmares and bad dreams. That’s the implication to take anyway, as the trailer does show them sleeping and mentioning the “dreamworld”.

There isn’t much else to glean from the trailer though. With an already short length and a cute intro for the character and their new stage, we only see about ten seconds of actual gameplay. Within those ten seconds, we see a nice little mix-up combo with some interesting moves. Those moves include an overhead that causes a ground bounce as well as a side-switching movement option. It’s unknown whether the dream theming will be reflected in their moves, but it certainly is in the character design itself.

For the most part, we know that Nidra looks cute and animates well. The character is also being voiced by Anjali Kunapaneni, who has done a lot of VO work and most recently voiced Sushang in Honkai: Star Rail. Nidra will be released in Summer 2023 along with the new stage and a lobby avatar.
