The one problem I have with SCS’s American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 has to be the lack of overall difficulty at this point. I’ve driven for more than 100+ hours in each game at least and I think I’ve gotten everything down pat. Something that has been on my radar for a while now is Road Studio S.A’s Alaskan Road Truckers (previously known as Alaskan Truck Simulator), which aims for more depth to the trucker gameplay that you’ll be tasked with. In fact, the PR line for the name change is just that, because you’re “more than a truck.”

Looking at the interior of the trucks in gameplay screenshots and beyond, there is a step-down in the level of detail. I won’t lie, you can tell it is a smaller Eastern European studio making what is arguably a bigger game in terms of scope. We thought there was going to be a release of what was then Alaskan Truck Simulator back in the tail end of 2022. However, that was quickly knocked on the head. With a name change and a further few months in development, hopefully, those edges being ironed out have become smooth.

On May 31st, developer Road Studio, and publishers Movie Games and Green Man Gaming Publishing unveiled the name change and a new video discussing the changes as well as further detail on the trucking title. “To celebrate the new name, a brand-new gameplay walkthrough has been recorded to reveal further details about the upcoming trucker simulation game,” says the press release, with the video linked below. Seeking to be deeper than just driving trucks from Vegas to Amarillo, you’ll be able to hop out the big rig in Alaskan Road Truckers.

The features listed in the press release include: Plotting your route, heavy customization, and a variety of cargo types, including tanks. On top of that you’ll have to keep on top of the truck maintenance, upgrade HQ, and interestingly with the ability to leave the cab, you’ll visit stores and gas stations. Being more of a life-sim than previous trucking titles, you’ll have to manage hunger, fatigue, and the cold. These things are also matched with the Alaskan dangers of avalanches, fallen trees, and other dangers of the road.

Set to release sometime this year, the Alaskan-based trucking title will be one of very few to head to consoles as well. It will be released on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, sometime this Fall. I am hoping the delays can stop and we get hands-on time with Alaskan Road Truckers. For the time being, we’ll have to wait a little longer for a solid release date and to find out what the latest trucking title is like.
