Weird West has had a busy year. The many updates that have added new locations, mechanics, and simple quality-of-life additions have turned it into a different experience than the one I initially reviewed back when it launched. More recently, we also saw the immersive RPG shooter making its way to modern consoles with 4K resolution and 60 FPS in the new Definitive Edition. This new edition is also available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers just like the original release as well.

There has been one platform obviously missing from the list though. Although it can now be played on PC and all of the current Xbox and PlayStation consoles, plans for a Nintendo Switch version of WolfEye Studios’ debut title had never been officially announced. The chances of it happening seemed even less likely with the recent Definitive Edition not being ported to the portable console along with the others, but a retail mishap has led Devolver Digital to announce that fans should expect a Nintendo Switch version in the future.

Physical releases for both standard and deluxe editions of the Nintendo Switch version popped up on Amazon before being taken off. Video game website Gematsu tweeted the listing at Devolver Digital for more information, leading the publisher to confirm that it is real and that Weird West: Definitive Edition will be heading to its next platform. No release date has been provided at this time.

While it isn’t the most graphically-intense game, there certainly are plenty of opportunities for a lot of chaotic moments. Whether the Nintendo Switch version will perform more in line with the previous generation versions or if technical wizardry will put it on par with the current generation remains to be seen. Regardless, we’ll be sure to provide updates as soon as we know more.

Samuel Moreno

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
