One thing I’ve been enjoying about Steam’s latest push for festivals showcasing games is the diversity on display. While I wish demos would be available on a more permanent basis for those of us who have limited time to spend with them, I love getting to see what developers are working on. Now, it seems that the country of Poland is getting a chance to shine due to the efforts of RedDeer.Games and Steam.
The Games of Poland Steam Fest will be running from May 1st to May 8th. This is only a week, but it will showcase over 100 games all developed by Polish dev teams. Here is what the press release has to say about what you can expect.
“The Games of Poland event will provide gamers with an opportunity to explore more than 100 titles from Polish game developers. The list includes many undiscovered gems as well as many interesting titles acclaimed by gamers around the world.
One game that undoubtedly stands out for its unconventional gameplay is Lumencraft, by 2Dynamic Games Studio. This unique game combines top-down shooter with rogue-like and tower defense elements. The players’ challenging task is simple – to save humanity in a post-apocalyptic world.
During the festival, RedDeer.Games will also present its award-winning action arcade game – Cyber Protocol. Set in a cyberpunk world, players take on the role of a hacker who must use quick reflexes and logical thinking to beat over 100 extremely difficult security systems.
On the developers’ list players will find entries from Jutsu Games, includes 911 Operator simulation and the latest release in the series, 112 Operator. In both games, players take on the highly demanding role of emergency line operators, managing calls and dispatching emergency units as efficiently as possible.
Last but not least, from interesting choices awaiting players are beautiful adaptations of internationally renowned board games – Wingspan and Quilts and Cats of Calico, developed by Monster Couch studio.
Among game developers who decided to take part in Games from Poland, players will also find studios such as THE PARASIGHT, Polyslash, Eremite Games, DeGenerals, Varsav Game Studios and Star Drifters.”
As always, games will be divided into typical categories such as popular titles, games on sale, Steam Deck-enabled games, and upcoming releases with free demos. The team at RedDeer.Games intend for this to even the playing field amongst their fellow Polish devs, granting equal visibility regardless of the size of the team or the size of the project.
Marta Raczynska-Wasiak, Head of Marketing at RedDeer.Games commented on the upcoming event, stating: “I am very glad that we managed to successfully coordinate our first games festival and bring together such a large group of developers from the Polish game development industry. I do hope that future editions of Games of Poland will help spread the wonderful Polish titles all over the world even further.”
There is often a misconception amongst gamers (and sometimes media professionals) that game development is isolated to places such as the United States and Japan. In reality, the gaming industry is growing by leaps and bounds all over the world, and events like this should help shine a light on that. I’m very excited to see what the Games of Poland event has to offer.
