At last year’s EVO, we learned that The King of Fighters XV would be having a second season of content and updates. As exciting as the upcoming cross-platform update is, fans have also been looking forward to the next set of DLC characters to be added. A proper announcement trailer and roadmap for season 2 came about in November and the first DLC character, Shingo Yabuki, was released in January alongside a character refinements update.

Along with Shingo, we also knew that the second character would be fan-favorite Kim Kaphwan. Originating from the Fatal Fury series, Kim is a staple in The King of Fighters series and a noticeable absence in the latest entry. Now, seven months after he was initially announced as part of the second season, there is finally a trailer that shows him off in action.

We barely have a minute of actual gameplay since it’s inter-spliced with him having fun interactions with other characters. Kim will be retaining his mastery of Taekwondo and has plenty of high-speed kicks that fans (old and new) will love. Similar to Shingo, he will have a brand-new costume and an alternative that’s sporting a classic one.

His release will also coincide with the addition of some new tracks. Eight staff roll songs from a variety of games, mostly spin-offs/related games in The King of Fighters series, will be added for free with the DJ Station feature.

For now, his release is still only listed as Spring 2023. He’ll be playable for the first time next week at EVO Japan, although the DLC could come out anytime over the next three months. Looking to the future, the next two DLC characters are Sylvie Paula Paula and Najd. Both characters were first introduced in The King of Fighters XIV and are expected to release in the summer. Two more characters will release in the Autumn and Winter seasons respectively.

The cross-platform update is also seemingly set between Kim and Sylvie, but there’s no telling if it will remain separate or be implemented at the same time with either character. There is a lot of time between now and the summer though. Hopefully, we’ll hear more news soon.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
