Since the pandemic started, there have been production problems across the world. Every industry was affected, including the gaming industry. However, there is one company that has noticeably suffered quite a bit more than others in the gaming space, Limited Run. For Limited Run Games it was common for orders to be significantly delayed, take ages to assemble and ship, or for other hiccups to occur. On March 15th, Limited Run decided to break down what was going on with the products currently in development, the setbacks that they have faced, and the ways they hope to reduce the production time.

In terms of production, Limited Run broke down how things were changing into three categories: Working with Others, Smarter Components and Partnerships, and Standardization of Collector’s Edition Boxes. In “Working with Others”, the company is planning to outsource booklet creation and lean on game developers, rightsholders, and manufacturing partners to have production begin prior to the beginning of pre-orders.

In “Smarter Components and Partnerships”, they mentioned that they will be increasing the number of vendors that they work with and changing the type of items that will appear in collector’s editions based on what resources are readily available. The “Standardization of Collector’s Edition Boxes” will mean that future CE Boxes will be standardized into a clam shell. However, Limited Run did note that some CE Boxes will still be bigger depending on the game.

The second biggest part of getting orders out is the fulfillments, which Limited Run also broke down into three categories: Investing in New Tools and Software, Trading Cards, and Enlisting Extra Help. “Investing in New Tools and Software” has become an essential thing for the company moving forward since their sales have increased, so there won’t be as much of a delay with final assembly.

Limited Run has decided to do away with numbered trading cards in future orders since there has been a boon in demand for trading cards worldwide. This demand has led to severe problems when getting trading cards for the final package. To further speed things up, the company will be “Enlisting Extra Help” in order to maintain the new speed that they are promising.

Overall, these seem like exciting times for Limited Run Games and gamers who enjoy physical copies of games. While there are some things that aren’t entirely explained here, it is clear that Limited Run has seen the problems with orders that the community has been raising questions about and are actively seeking ways to improve the overall customer experience.
