Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Story Trailer Revealed

One of the year’s most highly-anticipated titles is Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. There’s a lot of speculation surrounding what the game might do to build on Respawn’s first hit title in the series. For a lot of us who loved the game (myself included), there’s a concern that such a strong start might get watered down in the sequel if narrative elements aren’t handled correctly. Luckily, the newest story trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order softens concerns with its depiction of where we’ll find Cal Kestis and company in the upcoming game.

According to the game’s official description, “The dark times are closing in as Cal Kestis seeks out a safe haven far from the reach of the Empire. Five years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a more mature Cal Kestis must look beyond his lightsaber to find his destiny in the shadow of the Empire.” Fans of the 1997 game Shadows of the Empire might like that last bit and terminology. In that game, however, we’re a bit further in the timeline of the original trilogy than here in the Jedi games.

There’s so much Respawn can do here with Cal and his rebel team. I’m less concerned with abiding carefully by every bit of Star Wars Legends lore than I am about the game paving its own story out. I think fan service for reoccurring names or characters is clearly getting old in the many Disney+ series. The beautiful thing about the first Jedi game was the little sprinkling of Original Trilogy fun in between an original and impactful story. Let’s hope that’s the trend we keep following in the sequel.

You can watch the full story trailer below. I doubt you need reminding, but the game did get delayed by six weeks, which places its release on April 28, 2023. We’re not too far from the date now, but it’s felt a long time coming for fans of this Souls-like set in the galaxy far, far away.
