You might expect that the Far Cry series would be focusing exclusively on its sixth entry that came out in 2021, but there’s still plenty of love to show for the mainline title that came before it. Far Cry 5 is about to hit its fifth anniversary and one of the ways that Ubisoft is celebrating is with a widely-requested 60FPS update for those that play on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.

While it was already possible to play Far Cry 5 with 60FPS on PC, backward compatibility improvements only provided increased resolution. Anyone playing on an Xbox Series X|S console could technically use the FPS Boost Feature to increase the FPS, but this still wasn’t a native option. For Xbox Series X consoles it also came at the cost of resolution.

This new update allows anyone with a next-gen Xbox or PlayStation console to play with both strong visuals and performance. It’s not limited to any one mode either. Solo, co-op, multiplayer, and the arcade modes all benefit from the improvements and smoother gameplay. Ubisoft has previously provided updates like this for older games such as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

The Far Cry Twitter page is fully on-board with theming itself around the fifth anniversary of Far Cry 5. The initial tweet does imply that they’ll be celebrating it for the next three weeks, with the “highly-requested feature” they teased soon being revealed to be the 60FPS update.

Along with this update, the anniversary also coincides with more opportunities for people to check it out for the first time. A sale is currently being run that includes all of the different editions. A free weekend is also planned from March 23rd to the 27th. Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
