Tango Gameworks’ supernatural action-adventure Ghostwire: Tokyo is going to receive a brand-new update next month. While the update itself includes a lot of hefty changes and new content, it’ll also finally be coming to Xbox Series X|S as well as the Xbox Game Pass service. Here’s everything that we know so far.

All of the new content is coming in a free update called the Spider’s Thread update. A new Middle School area is being added along with new side missions. More monsters are being added, including the multiple-armed Sanguine Dancer. Some new skills are being added as well to help players better defend themselves. In addition to a Charge Rush attack and a Counter Attack, a new Quick Dodge skill is also being added among others.

The story will also be expanded upon a bit more with extended story cutscenes. For new players or even previous ones who aren’t the biggest horror fans, a new setting called Reduced Horror Effects will be able to replace certain spooky effects with Shiibuya Hachi stickers. Those who love to take pictures in games will be happy to learn that this update includes new features for the photo mode in Ghostwire: Tokyo. These features include overlaying stamps and being able to unlock game models to add to a scene.

Arguably the highlight of the entire update is the new roguelite game mode named The Spider’s Thread. Separate from the main game, it challenges players to traverse a “30-stage gauntlet assembled from over 130 handcrafted levels” with upgrades unlocking along the way. Losing will reset them back to the beginning with some upgrades retained. Aside from the challenge itself, there will also be a story to keep players invested.

As large as the update is, the other big surprise is that Xbox Series X|S versions will be launching the same day. Unsurprisingly, since it is a Bethesda Softworks-published game, Ghostwire: Tokyo will also be added to the Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass library. The new update and the Xbox version will drop on April 12th. If you’d like to read a review of the game back when it launched last year, Alexx has you covered.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
