After two lengthy six-month seasons and a four-month-long period known as the Winter Update, it’s finally time for the third season of Halo Infinite. The third season has been a long time coming and it’s packed with a lot of new content. Let’s break down what we know so far about Season 3: Echoes Within.
Some of the most notable inclusions are three new maps, which are made up of two arena maps called Cliffhanger and Chasm as well as a BTB map called Oasis. The latter will be the first BTB map since Breaker was released in season 2. A forge remake of Plaza, a Halo 5: Guardians map, will also be added later on in the season.
Something fun to play with in the new maps will be a new mode called Escalation Slayer. This mode hails from Halo: The Master Chief Collection, although many will recognize it as the Halo version of the popular Gun Game mode. Each time a player manages to kill an enemy they’ll find their weapon switched to something new. Whoever gets a kill with each weapon first wins the match. More information on the new maps and mode can be read here.

A lot of this news was initially relayed back in September along with the announcement of season 3 being delayed with the Winter Update, but it’s still nice to have some reminders. A new DMR-style rifle called the M392 Bandit will be added along with the new Shroud Screen equipment. A new 100-tier battle pass will also be available and early previews show a lot more content than just levels of XP boosts. Since two new armor cores are being added as well, the battle pass has plenty of additional armor parts to equip.
Although this is not confirmed, some are assuming the short clips from the new cinematic story event to be implications of an Infection mode being added. Whether that’s the case or not is unknown until season 3 launches on March 7th. The status of the Halo franchise has been called into question recently, but 343 Industries has certainly been steering the ship in a better direction, even if it’s been at a much slower pace than most prefer.
