In a stark contrast between what Devolver Digital usually releases into the world: gore, loud electronic, almost chiptune music, and swearing, I’m beyond excited to play more Terra Nil. You may remember the eco-warrior ’em up from South African developer Free Lives. I covered the demo a couple of years ago. A demo (at the time of writing) is still available on Steam. Even better, A new trailer has been released acknowledging a prospective release date, or rather a release window.

The trailer is some gameplay edited up to showcase what you’ll be doing all throughout Terra Nil in the style of ASMR. Titled “Satisfaction in Reclamation” we get to see more of the arid wasteland turned beautifully into lush dank swamps, rivers, fields, meadows, forests, and coral reefs with only the sound of nature accompanying the ultra-relaxing gameplay. Alongside the trailer, we get the statement that Terra Nil is “coming to PC and Netflix this spring” from the press release.

Honestly, it would be a waste of time quoting the press release given it is only a couple of paragraphs similarly gushing about Terra Nil‘s gameplay. It discusses the kaleidoscopic hand-painted art, beautiful animations, and mention of the “reactive soundtrack.” While I’m a fan of the cocaine-fueled hallucinogenic 80s dreams that is Free Lives’ Broforce, this gorgeous ecosystem rebuilder is one of my must-play games of 2023. Sure it is more “casual” than playing as an 80s action hero fighting terrorism in the name of America (F’ yeah!), but I’m an eco-warrior now give me my trowel!
