Four months ago at CEOtaku 2022, it was announced that both Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 and the previous version Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator would see the implementation of rollback netcode. Seemingly in preparation for new players looking to experience the predecessor to the more recent Guilty Gear Strive, both titles had their purchasing options simplified and repriced in October from what was once considered a confusing process. A two-week beta was announced at the same time and held during the latter half of October, starting just as the Guilty Gear Strive cross-platform network beta test finished.

Since the rollback beta left such a good impression, fans had been especially eager in hearing more information about when the public branch would be patched. Arc System Works set the date for January 20th on their official website, although they pushed the news across more channels once the update went live.

It appears that console players won’t be receiving the update though. Although Arc System Works had previously updated BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle on Steam and PlayStation 4, only the Steam version of Guilty Gear Xrd will have rollback. Some are presuming that this is due to the amount of work to update both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions since they have cross-play with one another. However, no official reason has been provided. Nonetheless, it’s a great time for players who prefer an older and different take on the series.

Guilty Gear Strive meanwhile has continued to see updates. Sin Kiske was the latest season 2 DLC character to be released and a new cross-platform network beta test has been announced to be held from February 3rd to February 6th. Differences this time include Sin Kiske being added as well as it cross-play for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows platforms. The inclusion of these additional platforms is especially exciting as it’s in advance for release on those platforms and through Xbox Game Pass.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
