Despite the many flaws of George Lucas’ Star Wars universe it still remains one of my favorite franchises. Over the years there have been many fantastic video games that expand the world of Star Wars in exciting new ways. While I wasn’t the biggest fan of Jedi: Fallen Order in terms of gameplay, I did enjoy the storyline and some of the boss encounters. I’m certainly looking forward to  seeing what new foes Cal might face within the upcoming sequel Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. 

According to a Steam listing, the newest title in Respawn Entertainment’s single-player action RPG series will be coming on March 31, 2023. This same listing also revealed some of the bonus cosmetics that players can receive as a preorder bonus for either the deluxe or standard edition.

A majority of these cosmetics revolve around legacy characters from the original trilogy. Players can acquire the unique Han Solo and Luke Skywalker outfits for Cal Kestis complete with character-accurate weaponry. BD-1, Cal’s droid companion will also get an R2-D2 skin.

The standard edition bonus provides a simple hermit outfit with an alternate lightsaber hilt and unique combustion blaster. Other sources claim this outfit was inspired by the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. This seems like a stretch, as the lightsaber style appears to actually be a recreation of the Jedi’s saber from Episode I. It’s an odd choice given his second saber is the more iconic design being wielded from Episode 3 onwards.

It’s nice to see more single-player action games for Star Wars rising to prominence once again. Even if the gameplay of Survivor is once again heavily contrived from other titles within the RPG space, I feel it is simply laying the groundwork for a truly groundbreaking Star Wars title. The universe offers so much potential for exciting concepts and storylines.

Additionally, I’m glad to see EA put more effort into supporting a half-decent gameplay experience. After the catastrophic revival of the Battlefront series, I’d rather they distance themselves from multiplayer-focused games within the universe for the time being. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2023.
