Overwatch 2 may have been released a little under two months ago, but it’s almost time for its first season to end. With season 2 set to launch on December 6th, a lot of details have come out over the past few days on what to expect. It all starts with the brand-new Tank hero, Ramattra.

Although the character was first shown during a limited-time PvE event for Overwatch over three years ago, he wouldn’t be brought up again until earlier this month at the Overwatch League Grand Finals when he was revealed as an upcoming tank hero in an Origin Story video. Over the weekend we got an even better look at what he’s capable of in a match thanks to a gameplay trailer and a kit rundown that was posted on the official Overwatch Twitter account.

Marketed as a Tempo Tank, his defining feature is the ability to change between two different forms. His Omnic form focuses on long-range attacks using his void accelerator staff to fire fixed-pattern projectiles as well as to create barriers at targeted locations. His Nemesis form is more suited for close-range combat by providing him with armor and changing his attacks to punches that send out piercing energy waves.

A Block ability also reduces damage from the front at the cost of movement speed. The Ravenous Vortex ability is available for either form and sees him send out a projectile that explodes and creates a damaging field that reaches up high. On top of doing damage to any flying enemies, it also slows their movement and pulls them down. His ultimate is called Annihilation and effectively works as an AoE ability. Enemies affected by it take damage and keep the ultimate persisting as long as they’re in range.

Whereas the first season followed a Cyberpunk theme, season 2’s theme will be based on Greek Mythology. The highlighted Mythic skin at the end of the Premium Battle Pass will be Zeus Junker Queen, with Legendary Hades Pharah and Legendary Poseidon Ramattra skins available along the way. Additional characters will have themed skins as well, including Widowmaker, Reinhardt, and Lucio. It seems likely that these will be rotated in the shop though.

A recent Overwatch blog post states that some skins will be available to earn for free through event challenges. Ice Queen Brigitte can be earned during the Winter Wonderland event, while the returning Kkachi Echo can be earned during the Lunar New Year event. Process of elimination would imply the mentioned and returning Winged Victory Mercy skin will be tied with the limited-time Battle for Olympus mode as a reward. New Twitch drops will also be available, including a Legendary Ramattra skin.

Rounding out the upcoming season is the new Shambali Monastery Escort map that’s been partially shown off in the promo videos for Ramattra and Season 2 itself. It will join the rotating map pool along with Rialto and Blizzard World while Hollywood and Watchpoint: Gibraltar are taken out. A host of balance changes are also coming for some heroes, but it’s unknown at this time who will be buffed and who will be nerfed. Anyone that missed out on unlocking Kiriko will be able to earn her by completing challenges that seem to involve winning a certain number of games. Alternatively, she’ll be available to purchase from the shop.

A trailer briefly going over the new content can be viewed below. Whether you’re a potentially interested new player or someone who spent a lot of time with the first game but is still on the fence about checking out Overwatch 2, feel free to read Mike’s perspective on whether it’s worth playing.
