I’m an RPG fanatic. I’ve played more RPGs than the average person I’m sure, and the only genre that would come close in second might be the Metroidvania genre. Because of that, I’m always looking for RPGs that are a little weird or off-beat in some way. Soccer Story is a comedic RPG that takes things in a new direction, a sporty one, shall we say?

If you’re a human that likes balls, Soccer Story might be of interest. Developed by Panic Barn and published by No More Robots, Soccer Story is an open-world comedy RPG that asks you to use Soccer (Football for everyone but Americans) to save the world. Soccer Story is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. You can also play it on Game Pass and Next-gen via backward compatibility.

Here is what the press release has to say about Soccer Story. “A year after The Calamity tore apart the very foundations of soccer as we know it, Soccer Inc. has taken full control of the sport and has BANNED anyone from even CONSIDERING kicking a ball around. Cristiano Ronaldo? More like, Ronal-no!

Luckily, a magical football has descended from the heavens and has chosen you, The Savior of Soccer, and, –you’ll get a kick out of this – you’ve been tasked with saving the future of the sport and bringing harmony to the world once more.

Of course, there are two offsides to every story, so let’s give the obviously cartoonishly evil soccer deniers the benefit of the doubt and let the story unfold.”

Soccer Story’s campaign is played entirely in single-player, but it has a separate local multiplayer mode for up to 4 players that will allow you to compete against each other as well. There are lots of puzzles, quests, and other interesting gameplay elements in Soccer Story’s campaign as well.

This is definitely a game I’m going to have on my radar for a while. You can pick it up now for PC and the consoles mentioned above or, if you’re a Game Pass subscriber, you can check it out now. Soccer fans or RPG fans might not want to miss this one.
