Nintendo Switch Sports was one of the most exciting announcements from earlier this year and players were able to get their hands on it when it was released a couple of months later. While the 6.15 million units sold so far is a great number for a seventh-month-old title, many fans of the Wii Sports series were disappointed by the lack of some fan-favorite modes in this latest iteration.
Those looking to hit some hole-in-ones have at least been able to hold onto the promise that Golf would eventually be added in a free update. Although this particular update was delayed from its expected Fall release to an unspecified time in Winter, Nintendo of America announced last week through Twitter that the Golf update would be arriving very soon. They might have just missed out on a big family holiday, but the update went live as scheduled on the 28th. A new trailer was released on the same day to go over everything available in the sports simulator.
Golf is unsurprisingly the main attraction of the update. Players can now compete against their friends locally or online across 21 different holes. Every single hole comes from the Wii Sports series and is sure to strike some nostalgic cords for fans. Like Survival Bowling which pits sixteen players against each other at the same time and eliminated the lowest scorers, Survival Golf presents another way to play the sport and functions similarly with eight players vying to make it in the hole in as few strokes as possible.
The other big addition in this update is the implementation of LAN play. Whether any new or more of the previously playable sports from the series will return is unknown as any potential future updates or DLC plans haven’t been shared. For now, this marks the end of the known free updates that have been expected since Nintendo Switch Sports was first announced.
