Control was a well-met game when it was released back in 2019. It had all of the best elements that developer Remedy Entertainment is known for and a setting inspired by the likes of the SCP Foundation fiction project. Later DLCs would expand the story and connect it to Alan Wake, a previous work from the developer. Last year there was some information given about the franchise’s future with the most significant takeaways being that a four-player multiplayer game, known internally as Project Condor, was in development and a “Bigger-budget Control-game” was planned as well.
While the latter seemed to hint at a direct sequel, there wasn’t exact confirmation at the time. With ties to Alan Wake, which itself was announced to be receiving a sequel at last year’s The Game Awards show, there was nothing to say that this other project wouldn’t be an expansion into a new direction. Fans of the game are surely rejoicing now though as Control 2 has been officially confirmed.

There isn’t much known about it just yet, but most information can be gleaned from the announcement on their investor site. It’s still in the concept stage and is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. We also know the initial budget is 50 million euros, which is quite a bit more than the original game’s budget of 30 million euros. Eagle-eyed fans also took notice of the sole concept art image shown, which seems to indicate some strange, other-worldly shenanigans happening right outside the entrance to The Oldest House, which served as the setting for its predecessor.
It will likely be a while until we see more Control 2, but Remedy Entertainment has plenty of other projects in the pipeline. In addition to the 2023-set Alan Wake II and the previously mentioned Project Condor, they’re also working on remakes of the first two Max Payne games and a separate F2P PvE shooter with the project name Vanguard. None of these have specific release dates just yet though.
