Halloween can feel like an all-month excursion, as the popularity of all things horror, scary, and spooky are massively on-trend in October. While some of us are too old for trick-or-treating, there’s still plenty of fun to be had in video gaming, as I have more delightfully-terrifying and festive experiences to recommend. If you’re looking for more, look no further than the first article from 2020 where I kicked this series off! Now let’s take a look at some games to move out of your backlog!

Ooblets

As a fellow writer noted in their 10 out of 10 review, they’d recommend Ooblets to anyone. It’s positively perfect for Halloween, as one zone is chock-full of spooky vibes and you can even trick-or-treat with tons of NPCs across the entire game. What was originally a special holiday event eventually became a staple for the game after the developer saw the positive feedback. Past the Halloween inclusion though, it’s just a blast of a game and could be your next obsession, like how it currently is my partner’s.

Costume Quest 2

In my first rendition, Costume Quest was an easy recommendation. In this massively-charming sequel, the love and care are still present as you make your way through a short but sweet RPG that is a no-brainer at its current sale price of $4.99 until November 2nd. If you have young ones, they will no doubt have a grand old time, but older players can still be thoroughly entertained with a familiar sense of nostalgia and a mechanically-sound celebration of October 31st. Trick-or-treating was never so cute or fun to simulate.

Resident Evil Village

It took me entirely way too long to get into the Resident Evil franchise, but somehow, the eighth entry into the survival-horror series was what made it click for me. I’ve always been put off by horror games where you feel like you have no control of your character or the events on-screen, but Resident Evil Village gives you enough agency to overcome unbelievable odds whilst smartly scaring the player by deceiving them with a sense of security that can switch on them on a whim. This is the best way to get scared on Halloween in 2022, leaving out cheap jumpscares and unpolished gameplay and letting yourself get immersed into a mortifying town that has more than a few tricks up its sleeve to mess with your head.

Viscera Cleanup Detail

Sometimes the blood and guts make you feel right at home on Halloween. Viscera Cleanup Detail has more than a few buckets full of it, and it’s up to you to make things look pretty after a bloodbath. With the recent love behind Powerwash Simulator, gamers are cleaning more now than ever, and this throwback title from 2015 is guaranteed to run like a dream on most PCs. Keeping in theme with Halloween, there’s even a DLC where you clean a haunted house on the fateful night. Instead of loading up on candy, you might as well clean up a bunch of gunk on your computer screen.
