The Digimon franchise hasn’t seen that big of a push when it comes to video games over the past few years. While there have been some mobile gacha titles and a free MMORPG, those have remained exclusives for China and Korea. The most prominent and well-known games have been this year’s Digimon Survive, which was delayed from its initial 2019 release window, and the pair of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth games that were initially released in 2015 and 2017.

That could be changing in the near future though. A message from a couple of producers for the Digimon games, Kazumasa Habu and Takahiro Yokota, revealed that they, “have multiple Digimon game projects in the pipeline.” There’s nothing saying that these projects won’t also be mobile gacha games or the like, but at the very least, there’s good reason to hope that they’ll be international projects. The official Digimon Games Twitter account that shared this message has always been more Western-focused and only ever promotes games that also release in the West.

Something that could be considered a part of their multiple projects, and the primary reasoning for the message, is the newly announced release of Digimon World: Next Order for the Nintendo Switch and Steam. Based on the popular Digimon World monster-raising RPG series, this title was originally released in Japan for PlayStation Vita in 2016 and then internationally on PlayStation 4 the following year.

Two new features are also being added. The first is a lower game difficulty called Beginner Mode, while the second is more of a quality-of-life update by adding the ability to run. Developer Hyde, who took over from developers Witchcraft on Digimon Survive, is working on these new ports. Both the Nintendo Switch and Steam versions are set to release on February 22, 2023.

Samuel Moreno

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
