The bad part about a live service game is that it often encourages you to spend money on in-game items and events. While NBA 2K has a not-so-great reputation for microtransactions, I enjoy the game every year without spending an extra dime on virtual currency. Part of the fun is taking advantage of new game modes and events that come out in each new season of the game’s lifespan. Season 2 is set to kick off in NBA 2K23 and that means a lot of new content is coming your way. Here’s what you can expect.

NBA 2K23 Season 2 is going to kick off with a bit of a festive flare. Halloween might not really seem connected to the NBA, but there are actually some fun tie-ins coming to 2K’s basketball simulator. Firstly, Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker, the cover athlete for this year’s game, is going to lead a challenge that takes players through the Wild West. You’ll take your shot at striking gold in earning the Larry O’Brien Trophy, challenging teams like the reigning champions, the Golden State Warriors, and more.

MyCAREER will also add a Trick-or-Treating night out and other festivities to The City and the G.O.A.T. Boat. This includes a new court and artwork, a special skeleton outfit, and a Jabbawockeez outfit as a Level 40 reward. MyTEAM is also debuting the first Dark Matter cards. This expands the value of digital cards you can collect and ties into the Halloween celebrations. It’s an exciting expansion to keep players grinding for those top cards.

The W also is bringing additions including all-new challenges, Community rewards, and weekly The W Online rewards like a Tamika Catchings Coach Card. NBA 2K23 is also rolling out 60 WNBA player jerseys in the City and the G.O.A.T Boat in MyCAREER. Lastly, J. Cole, this year’s 2K beats curator, is adding 20 more tracks to the playlist of the game too. Some of the artists are great, but 2K is turning to the community for talents who can win a spot in the NBA 2K Producer Series using a beat by BoogzDaBeast.
