I find myself drawn to casual, relaxing games more and more these days. Especially when winter rolls around and my joints start acting up. A new contender in the relaxing games category is Garden In, developed by Italian studio Dramatic Iceberg. Thanks to an announcement yesterday, we now know when to expect Garden In’s release.

Garden In is a relaxing, sandbox gardening simulator that allows you to nurture your own garden without fail states and without the worry of killing plants. Have a black thumb in real life instead of a green one? Garden In gives you the opportunity to grow your dream garden without dry, dead flora.

Here is what the press release says about Garden In. “Growing plants and gardens takes time, devotion, love, water, the right kind of soil, and sometimes some fertilizers. No wonder we can’t keep our plants alive ourselves, it takes a lot but not anymore, as Garden In! is coming out in early 2023! In this cute and relaxing sandbox game you grow gardens from your dreams with no stress.

Garden In! is made by an Italian studio Dramatic Iceberg. The game is the studio’s first commercial video game title. The game will be released by Bonus Stage Publishing on PC and Nintendo Switch in early 2023. The game was featured in Wholesome Games and Guerrilla Collective in June 2022.

The game starts in one room in which you are tasked to decorate to your liking. Your room is basically a perfect little sandbox in which you can move furniture around, paint the environment, and most importantly: grow plants. A lot of plants.

At first you have a few seeds available, you can plant them in soil, water, rocks, and you have a few pots to choose from. But as you advance, combine different seeds and try out different growing conditions, your seed library will grow and grow until you are the most advanced horticulturist in the world. You also unlock new rooms and areas by playing the game further.”

Tommaso Verde (of Dramatic Iceberg) commented on the announcement, stating: “We started making the game because none of our team was able to keep their plants alive. We then decided we needed to learn some gardening skills, and just like that was the idea for the game born.

We’re extremely happy to work with the publisher of Garden In because in the midst of the busy world we all need some time to relax in our gardens. Also what makes us happy is that thanks to our partner Double Jump Capital we’re able to maximize the production quality of the game with their investment.”

Brett M. Brown, managing partner at Double Jump Capital also shared his excitement, commenting that “We are extremely excited to partner with Dramatic Iceberg and Bonus Stage Publishing to bring such a fun game to market.  We see enormous potential in supporting such an innovative, entertaining and enjoyable game and look forward to the success of Garden In!”

I personally love the idea of Garden In, because I’m not physically capable of growing my own garden. Between my physical limitations and a lack of space, it just isn’t feasible. Games like Garden In are great for this sort of problem. When it releases in 2023, I know I won’t be the only one living out my green thumb fantasies.
