It’s been a little more than five months since Weird West was released, and the game has been supported with updates ever since. A lot of changes have been implemented based on player feedback, along with new features, content, and a lot of bug fixes. The latest update to Weird West is patch 1.04, and its highlights include a brand new game mode and an alternative aiming system.

“Nimpossible Mode” is the name of the new game mode, and it has been a long time coming for the community, having been announced along with Weird West‘s roadmap back in April. It adds something players have wanted for a while now: a perma-death mode.
The mode works by removing the option to manually save and limiting players to the auto-save only. When a player dies, they can resurrect themselves by using a Nimp Head and even have some time to strategically choose where they’ll come back in an area. If they die with no more Nimp Heads though, the death is considered permanent and the auto-save file is deleted. New travel encounters and a new side-quest that are exclusive to the Nimpossible Mode are also added.
While there were some options added with the previous patch to make the twin-stick aiming system more accommodating, an entirely new alternative aiming system has been implemented with the 1.04 patch and can be toggled in the options menu. The camera remains free and controls the same as it does when you’re not aiming under this optional system. Aiming merely points the weapon directly ahead and turns the character with the camera, keeping their back to it the whole time you’re aiming.
Additional features bundled with this update include a human kill count tracker and a higher level of slow motion for players who use the recently added slo-mo while aiming option. Blunt weapons have also been adjusted to not kill someone if the player is attacking quickly. The update is already live, but you can read more about the new features and bug fixes through this Steam update post.
