It was just over a week ago that “The Yappening” was teased with a tweet on the official Halo Twitter account. Fans assumed this would be a new limited-time event for Halo Infinite as events under the same name took place in Halo Wars 2 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Although some may have forgotten about it after the poorly-received update about what’s expected to come over the rest of the year and until the middle of next, the new event has gone live and a blog post on Halo Waypoint goes over the details.

Named after the eccentric Unggoy (i.e. a grunt) called Yapyap, The Yappening has been characterized as an event with wacky and chaotic game modes. This time around for Halo Infinite, it’s a playlist of unique BTB game modes and a free 10-tier event pass filled with unique customization unlocks.

First are the seven game modes available through the Methane Menagerie playlist. Although it was already possible to play CTF, Slayer, Total Control, and Stockpile on BTB maps, this event is throwing a twist by making Fiesta versions of those game modes. If you’ve never experienced a BTB map in previous Halo games with the random nature of Fiesta mode before, you’re surely in for a treat.

Those who enjoy only using snipers will love BTB Team Snipers, while anyone who loves the combo of a sniper and a shotgun will have a fun time in BTB Shotty Snipes. BTB Skrockets Slayer is an all-new mode that limits players to the Skewer and the M41 SPNKR only with unlimited ammo.

The 10-tier event is filled with easy challenges for players to progress as they play. There aren’t any mode-specific challenges as they’re all based on earning cumulative player scores or killing a certain number of players. As long as you play through the playlist, you’ll earn the rewards in no time.

Speaking of, you’ll get a little bit of everything with the cosmetic rewards. From weapon/armor coatings,  charms to a stance, and a unique kill effect, there’s something for everyone. Just playing the game as the event runs will unlock a nameplate and emblem. The ultimate reward for completing the weekly challenges also offers a humorous weapon charm. The Yappening will run as a two-week event and is set to wrap up on September 20th.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
