On Thursday, a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming action-RPG Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn was released. Initially premiering at Gamescom, this newest  gameplay trailer showcased a significant amount of combat. There is clearly a lot of influence from other popular games within the genre, with many quick to compare Flintlock to Elden Ring and God of War (2018). Nonetheless, I believe the readily apparent inclusion of flintlock weaponry and the magical fox companion, Enki, will provide enough interesting gameplay to give Flintlock its own identity.

The story of Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is set in a world of tyrannical gods whose undead forces plague the landscape. It is up to our protagonist, Nor, to defeat each of them gaining new abilities and skills along the way.

So far the trailer focuses mainly on axe-based combat with a secondary pistol. According to the IGN preview, there will be a variety of other weapons and powers that you can unlock throughout your journey. I for one am hoping the other weapons on offer will handle a little more fluidly, as the axe combat looks a little robotic. Despite these slight misgivings, I was still intrigued by the offerings here. The takedown animations in particular add just the right amount of style to give you some truly satisfying combat encounters. Furthermore, the abilities of Enki seem extra exciting: IGN’s video states that Enki can freeze time in addition to being able to teleport around to attack enemies.

Apart from combat, the game is also said to offer a variety of side quests typical of an RPG, as well as a customizable home base. There are also dungeons that will test your traversal abilities as well as your prowess in combat.

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is developed by A44 Games (published by Kepler Interactive) and is slated to launch in early 2023. Flintlock will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, as well as Xbox One.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
