Nintendo Switch OLED Splatoon Edition is Out Now

The Nintendo Switch OLED console bumped the price up by $50 for the upgraded screen. That’s not a bad trade-up if you usually play handheld. Add another $10 to that and you can net yourself a brand new Splatoon Special Edition console, which was just released ahead of the Splatoon 3 launch. That might not appeal to people who haven’t played the game but hear me out. This is the best special edition of a Switch we’ve seen yet. Sorry, Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans.

The OLED Splatoon Edition console comes with some major upgrades if you’re still playing an original Switch. The 7-inch OLED screen definitely makes a difference if you haven’t seen it in person. Target and Best Buy here in the United States have demo areas set up to give you a chance to see it. The colors and visuals are crisper with this new screen. The wide adjustable stand isn’t a bad touch either if you’re looking for comfortable viewing in Tabletop mode.

Other features of the console include a wired LAN port that is located in the console’s dock, a 64 GB internal storage, and enhanced sound from the system’s onboard speakers. Of course, you can get any of those features from the normal OLED console. This Special Edition console includes blue and green Joy-Con controllers that feature graffiti designs akin to what you’ve seen in the Splatoon series. You’ll also get a white console dock with similar graffiti designs in white with a neon green splat graphic on it. Truly, this is a great-looking console.

There is one caveat that might influence your decision: you don’t get the game with the console. That’s likely because Nintendo wants to track pure software sales and they know they can get a bit more money out of you. Unfortunately, that means you’re looking at a total of $419.98 before tax for the game and themed console. You can find it now on Amazon as well as at retailers like Target, Best Buy, and Walmart.
