Metal: Hellsinger Concert Announced for Gamescom

One upcoming game that may not be on everyone’s must-have list is Metal: Hellsinger. For those who are unaware, it is a rhythm-based FPS that seeks to combine the hectic combat reminiscent of DOOM into specific timing to backing songs composed and performed by some of the biggest names in modern metal. To help promote the September 2022 release, a live performance has been announced at the upcoming Gamescom on August 25th.

Slated for the performance are five metal musicians also featured in the game: Matt Heafy of Trivium, Mikael Stanne of Dark Tranquility, Dennis Lyxsen of Refused/INVSN, Alissa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy, and James Dorton of Black Crown Initiate. This is a veritable who’s-who of metal masters, and should make for one hell of a performance.

Con performances have a rough track record, as Metallica’s Twitch stream (performing their own music) got copyright-detected, muted, and switched with bardic tunes at Blizzcon 2021. Bethesda’s E3 2018 saw Andrew W.K. perform his party music to support Rage 2 to a crowd that didn’t move a muscle.

With Heafy’s guitar chops meshing with the intense vocals from Stanne, Lyxsen, Gluz, and Dorton, this is set to be a slam-dunk not only for the promotion of Metal: Hellsinger, but for these talented performers who will reach a new audience and expose gamers to the heavier side of metal, much like Stranger Things 4 did earlier this year with their inclusion of Metallica. With the right acoustics, stage presence, and production value, it’s surely something that will be a pleasure to watch.

The stream is set for 7 PM CEST, meaning it will take place in the middle of the day in the USA. It can be viewed at metalhellsinger.com and for preservation’s sake, it will likely be viewable via VOD soon after. Here’s hoping no copyright comes into play so it can be enjoyed by fans far and wide.
