Global Nintendo Switch Sales Cross 111 Million

The Nintendo Switch was first released in 2017. Since then, new sales numbers from the company producing the console seem to indicate the continued success of its platform. While game companies are reporting fewer sales than 2020 during the height of the pandemic, Nintendo still seems poised for a solid 2022. Beyond its console sales, software for Nintendo continues to be a strong point. Here is what we know from the latest report of earnings for the games industry titan.

In an earnings call for Q2 2022, Nintendo reported via sales charts the strong sales of the Switch some 5+ years after its release. In Q2 of this year, which takes place between April to the end of June, Nintendo saw both hardware and software numbers that they seemed content with. The three-month period included 3.43 million Switch hardware and 41.41 million software sales. To date, the company’s top 10 best-selling games also appear to be quite similar to the past reports. That said, the numbers have been updated below:

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 46.82 million
Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 39.38 million
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 28.82 million
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 27.14 million
Pokemon Sword / Pokemon Shield – 24.50 million

Super Mario Odyssey – 23.93 million
Super Mario Party – 18.06 million
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond / Pokemon Shining Pearl – 14.79 million
Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! – 14.66 million
Ring Fit Adventure – 14.54 million

In terms of newer titles, Nintendo Switch Sports is the highest-selling game of the past quarter with 4.84 million sales. The game sits at $40 USD, or $50 USD with a leg-strap, making it a lower ask than the typical $60 USD game.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land sold 4.53 million units while Mario Strikers: Battle League sold 1.91 million units. It’s worth noting that Mario Strikers is a newer release.
