On today’s episode of “Things that Should Surprise Absolutely No One,” we have the second example in recent memory of Blizzard Entertainment confirming the release date of something prominent a matter of days after that date was leaked. You might have heard that Blizzard’s planned launch date for World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic was inadvertently leaked via an image that was spotted by the venerable fansite Wowhead. I then covered that leak in this article from a week ago.

Well, as of about three days after the release date for Wrath Classic was initially made public thanks to Wowhead and several other outlets, Blizzard has now officially confirmed that the leaked information was correct. Players will indeed be able to begin the process of reliving what many WoW veterans consider to be the game’s best expansion beginning on that Monday, September 26th, 2022 at approximately 3 PM Pacific Time.

It has been reported in the past few months that players will not have to contend with the original requirements for creating their first Death Knight character on their Wrath of the Lich King Classic account. That is, players will not need to have an existing character sitting at level 55 or higher on the server upon which they wish to create their first Death Knight. However, characters of this hero class will still be limited to one per server on each account.

Furthermore, the ability to create Death Knights will reportedly be made available to all WoW Classic players beginning with the Wrath of the Lich King Classic pre-patch rather than with the expansion’s full launch. We don’t have a concrete date for the arrival of the pre-patch yet, but based on precedent with The Burning Crusade Classic, I suspect it will go live about two weeks before the full expansion does. Just be advised that the Burning Crusade Classic client will not exist on its own once WotLK Classic launches.
