A while ago, I reviewed the Nintendo Switch version of Dungeon Munchies, which contained the first two chapters of the game and offered a really fun, unique take on the Metroidvania genre. I mentioned finding it odd that the Switch version was basically an Early Access release and not the full game. Now, it seems that the developers have finally released the full version of the game for all platforms.

Chapter 3 of Dungeon Munchies is now available as a free update on Switch, and the PC version is officially out of Early Access. Additionally, publisher Serenity Forge will be releasing a physical PlayStation 4 and 5 version, as well as a physical Switch release on October 28th. Here is what the press release says about the new content and release.

This final chapter introduces kooky characters and unexpected revelations. Explore three new maps filled with new monsters, ingredients, recipes, and legendary weapons. Overcome three powerful bosses, cook up seven fresh dishes, and learn the truth behind the dungeon and even the protagonist’s existence!

New to Dungeon Munchies? Now’s the perfect time to rise as a freshly-resurrected zombie in a massive underground complex and heed the call of a rumbling tummy. With help from a ghostly self-proclaimed culinary “expert” known as Necro-Chef Simmer, delve further into the dungeon’s depths to collect ingredients to curb the ever-present hunger.

Become a well-fed Frankenstein (…‘s monster) of fantastic feats, unlocking new abilities by cooking complex, monstrous dishes from the remains of foes. Compile an impressive cookbook cataloging each of the boons associated with each meal. Munch on fried mosquitos to gain their wings and earn a double jump, finish off a fishtail to gain underwater speed, or snack on electrified snail shells to learn shocking counterattacks.

Some animal and plant parts remain inedible even with a zombie’s garbage gut. Not to worry! Craft weapons with those leftover bits to further improve the odds of survival. Embrace absurdity with adorable anime-inspired pixel animations basted by colorful character portraits, tasteful humor, and a funky soundtrack capturing the jovial energy of a shambling cook trying to stave off death with each bite.

Additionally, Shintaro Kanaoya, founder and CEO of Chorus Worldwide commented on this release, stating: “Last December, Dungeon Munchies served up a tantalizing taste of its strange world on Nintendo Switch. With Chapter 3 now available on Steam and Nintendo Switch, we hope you enjoy this robust three-course meal.”

As previously stated, if you already own Dungeon Munchies, the new chapter is entirely free on Switch or PC. Otherwise, you can pick up the full game now and enjoy your time cooking monster bits from the beginning. I highly recommend it, and I am super excited to see how the story concludes.
