Kirby and the Forgotten Land may have come out a few months ago, but 2022 is still the 30th anniversary year for the Kirby series. Continuing the celebration is a brand-new competitive multiplayer game called Kirby’s Dream Buffet. As you may be able to tell from the title, a primary theme for the game will revolve around food and eating.

The announcement trailer for the game has a cute cinematic that shows Kirby being shrunk down by a sort of magic fork before he can eat a dessert cake. He takes it in stride and then chases after a bunch of other colorful Kirbys that are rolling up the now gargantuan cake. It’s about as good of an explanation that you can expect for a multiplayer game like this.

How the game will play seems to be reminiscent of party games like Mario Party and Fall Guys. Up to four players race each other through dessert-themed courses made out of ice cream, cake, wafers, and plenty of other sweets. Each will also have the option to hinder the competition with familiar copy abilities.

The focus isn’t just solely on racing to be first. Strawberries are laying all around each course that can be eaten and subsequently enlarge each Kirby. This is important because, after a few rounds of racing and eating strawberries the final round pits everyone in a battle on top of a floating platform. It’s likely a lot easier to knock people off when you’re much bigger than them. Whichever Kirby is the largest at the end of all the rounds is declared the winner.

Pricing for the game is currently unknown. What we do know is that the game will be launching exclusively on the Nintendo eShop this Summer. Seeing as Summer will be ending in a couple of months though, it’s likely that we’ll be hearing more about the game pretty soon.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
