Ever since the premise of The Boys was revealed to be a superhero show where the supposed good guys are a bunch of menaces, it has caught the attention of tons. Arguably the biggest original show Amazon Prime Video has had to offer since Jack Ryan, it has moved to the mainstream in 2022. It is one of the most talked-about shows, bravely airing in the midst of huge shows Stranger Things and Obi-Wan. Now that season 3 has wrapped up, is it still worth the watch?

The most prevalent, ongoing theme of The Boys is its satirization of modern-day America, whether it be the obsession with heroes, its left-wing vs. right-wing narratives, or the corporate structure taking no prisoners and not giving anyone leeway. The way season 3 of The Boys mirrors the goings-on of the USA is as relevant and poignant as could be. This season we see a hit-piece conservative talk show in “The Cameron Coleman Hour”, a right-wing step-father parroting talking points, a clever hashtag people chant at rallies, and a hopeful social media sing-along after a tragedy.

The other thing The Boys is known for is its gratuitous violence that only seems matched by a similar Amazon Prime Video exclusive, Invincible. Season 3 doesn’t skimp on it here, with guts-a-flying and a kill count that would make most shows shudder. Through and through, the action scenes will keep your eyes glued as the back-and-forth choreography and stellar camerawork make every punch feel impactful.

Other than the bevy of battles, there’s some serious character development at play, especially with newcomer Soldier Boy played so mesmerizingly by Jensen Ackles. No relationship is off-limits to hit rock bottom, as selfish choices and betrayals shatter the bonds some characters have been forming since season one. Some stories get a little lost in the mix with so much going on but get resolved nicely when all is said and done. At times, with so many anti-heroes at play, it’s genuinely hard to figure out who to root for. The ulterior motives are so varied and hard to decipher until they play out.

More than once, there are moments that viewers have been waiting for since the start of the show. There was meteoric amounts of hype for the Herogasm episode, and while it wasn’t just an hour of superheroed sex, it was the standout episode of season 3 as many things came to a head and the best fight of the series to that point took place. The climax in the finale was just as bombastic, not only tugging at the heartstrings but having fans on the edge of their seat more than once.

Anyone going into season 3 of The Boys has an idea of what to expect: the unexpected. I looked forward to every Friday in June, and I liked the choice to make the first three episodes stream before going weekly so we had plenty to sink into after the long wait from season 2. If you’ve waited to binge The Boys season 3, wait no longer and go enjoy the entirety of it now. It is a joy to view from the open to the closing shocker.
