Monday, nothing really happened because we’re in that post not-E3 clarity. Tuesday, Alexx wants to choke a smurf on a racetrack this winter, and Tim Drake put himself on display. Wednesday, Alexx was happy about Persona and other games that were shown off during Nintendo’s direct this week, while Samuel spoke of Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s latest update. Thursday, Samuel wrote about Sony’s latest crap headphones, while Alexx spoke of Midboss’ Season of Pride 2022.

Moving on to this week’s free games on the Epic Games Store, we’ll start with Iratus: Lord of the Dead. If I start with something else I might just become the lord of the dead myself. David actually gave two very in-depth reviews on Iratus, both in early access and one following its 1.0 release. Both are going to be far more useful than I am today. David enjoys the Darkest Dungeon-style of turn-based gameplay, and I have a history of mispronouncing Gilgamesh for comedic effect in videos because I don’t often enjoy turn-based gameplay. All I’d be able to tell you is that Iratus is a darker and more gothic necromancy-based version of Darkest Dungeon.

Shifting to the surprise that I only found out about yesterday morning, we have Sumo Digital’s Hood: Outlaws & Legends, a multiplayer game that looked like all the boring bits of every “PvPvE” game when I first saw it. 8-people split up into two teams and attempt to pilfer from the set of Assassins Creed: Mordor by sneaking around the level and killing the other team. This leads to hilarity as showcased by YouTubers with no personality sell the game, and two weeks later 10 people are in-game. As I speak, the peak number of players on Steam for the past 24 hours was 114. I wonder why it is free right now?

Climbing back in time, let’s go to the 90s via 2021 to dip into Geneforge 1 – Mutagen, a remake of the 2001 RPG with more depth than fancy graphics. If you are like me and get sniffy at classic RPGs (western or otherwise) and think this remake looks dated, I’d suggest looking up the original for some perspective. Honestly, I’m oddly interested in at least attempting Jeff Vogel’s remake of his seminal hit, even though I do have a well-documented history of throwing my hands up at retro turn-based gameplay and RPGs.

All this week, you can pick up Iratus: Lord of the DeadHood: Outlaws & Legends, and Geneforge 1 – Mutagen for free on the Epic Games Store until the morning of the 7th of July. Moving on to next week’s games, it is another turn-based card RPG alongside a multiplayer shooter. Starting with Ancient Enemy, you’ll be playing animated Gwent. Then you’ll have a zombie-clown massacre chaser as Tripwire’s the Killing Floor 2 continues to bore me to tears as it just keeps releasing.
