In what many World of Warcraft players thought was an odd move, Blizzard Entertainment did not launch pre-orders for the game’s upcoming expansion pack (known as Dragonflight) after officially announcing its existence back in April. However, this has now been rectified, as pre-orders for the expansion set are now live via Battle.net. I’d like to provide you with a brief rundown of everything pertaining to this matter, so let’s begin, shall we?
Dragonflight will operate in much the same manner as the recent expansions that have come before it. That is to say, there are four distinct editions of the expansion that are now available for pre-order. I feel I should mention that we don’t currently have an exact release date for Dragonflight at the time of writing, though its official page on the Battle.net store claims that it’ll be out on or before December 31st of this year.
That being said, the four editions of Dragonflight are as follows: the Base Edition, the Heroic Edition, the Epic Edition, and the physical Collector’s Edition. All four of these require that you own World of Warcraft: Shadowlands on any account upon which you wish to purchase Dragonflight. Other than that, each edition is unique in what it offers players who pre-order it. The Base Edition, as you might expect, is only enough to offer purchasers access to all the new expansion’s content once it releases. This version of the expansion will presently cost you $49.99 USD.
The Heroic Edition will set you back $69.99 USD. In exchange for that cash, you get access to the new expansion in addition to the following: a pet called Drakks which will only be available before Dragonflight launches, a level 60 single-use character boost, a (presumably) Epic-quality flying mount known as the Tangled Dreamweaver, and an additional pet called Murkastrasza.
That brings us to the Epic Edition, which will run you $89.99 USD. For your money on this front, you will receive everything I’ve listed off thus far plus the following items: a cosmetic effect for your character’s Hearthstone, a transmogrification item called “Diadem of the Spell-Keeper,” a second transmogrification item known as the “Wings of Awakening” which has five different color variants, and thirty days’ worth of game time to be applied to the account upon which you purchase this edition of Dragonflight.
Finally, there’s the Collector’s Edition. Since this one comes with a bunch of physical goodies, you’ll have to purchase it from the Blizzard Gear Store rather than Battle.net. This edition of Dragonflight comes with everything present in the aforementioned Epic Edition of the expansion on top of an “Art of Dragonflight” hardback art book, an Alexstrasza mouse pad, and a set of five pins representing the five different in-game Dragonflights. This edition is apparently limited in quantity and costs $129.99 USD, not including any applicable taxes and shipping fees.
There you have it, folks! That should be just about everything you might need to know about World of Warcraft: Dragonflight except for the expansion’s actual release date. When that date is made public, I’ll do my best to report on that in a timely manner as well. For now, though, do you plan to pre-purchase any version of this new expansion set? Why or why not? Do feel free to sound off in this article’s comments if you’re so inclined!
